In Albuquerque, New Mexico, 24 of the 36 available Kia Stingers are the GT2s . I’ve said before that the Stinger is the type of car that should average 2,000 monthly sales in order to be truly considered a hit. And have no fear Oppo because every ingredient for severe depreciation is present and plentiful!
Here were the 2018 inventories the two ABQ Kia Dealers had last weekend:
Model - Dealer A | Dealer B
Rio - 10 | 10
Soul - 65 | 59
Forte - 17 | 25
Niro - 14 | 19
Sportage - 29 | 16
Optima - 68 | 53
Sorento - 50 | 35
Sedona - 10 | 7
Stinger - 16 | 20
Cadenza - 1 | 2
K900 - 0 | 0
There are about as many Stingers as there are Fortes in Albuquerque. The number of GT2s (the $50,000+ trim) was 12 out of 16 at Dealer A and 12 out of 20 at Dealer B.
Do want, badly! The more of these I check out and drive the more I realize the Stinger is truly something special. Right on hype.
Looks like 2016-2028 will be to HMG what 1986-1998 was for the Japanese brands.
Greater things are still to come and the good stuff will keep depreciating like a pair of used swim trunks, yeaaah!

Any ADMs on the GT2?
A dealer in my region has 3 GT2s in stock, with apparent 10K markups on 2 of them. One of them appears to have been in stock for at least 6 weeks. In other words, GTFO to that idea.

Same same here.
But here it has to do a lot more with people not wanting to spend more than 30K on an Asian car because they think that engineering is a German art.
Little do they know that we’re getting away with a bargain here compared to the US; with the equivalent stinger model being 12K cheaper than MSRP in the US.
But as long as it remains a niche car and people confuse me for an Optima, I’m happy.

Nope, they are taking advantage of the fact that Kia gives out $7,300 cash when leasing GT2s. So every NM dealership employee, family member, and those that want a new car are going for that. Since that gets the GT2s around $42,000 to $45,000 there is no reason to bother carrying GT1s.

You also learn that Souls and Optimas are the most popular Kias.

*emphatically raises hand and goes off to look at BRZ’s and Civic Si’s*

Funny. Two of them at the lot here have asking prices just over 62K. They won’t be going anywhere at anything near that price.

I’d take a GTI, over a Civic SI, or obviously an E90 over either

Giving up a stick, I’d take an IS350 F-sport over any of those, but they aren’t in my budget yet (some IS350s without the package are, though). I sat in one yesterday and it was lovely.
